Genesis 1:1-2:25
Interesting...for a new year there is the history of God's new creation. It's so easy to just read the Creation story plainly. If you think about it, you know how amazing it must have been...or for us WOULD HAVE BEEN to actually watch that go on?!? I mean, the animals didn't just pop up out of no where or evolve S L O W L Y out of goop, but God created them from DNA up, each animal as its own kind. Wow! That just would have been so amazing...no...it WAS and IS amazing.

Matthew 1:1-2:12
Just passing Christmas, it is so amazing to still read Christ's birth story. Although he was, at this point, considered a lowly carpenter, Jesus was of the royal line of David. is past was made up of Jews, non-Jews, harlots, adulterers, corrupt kings, and even the nobodies. By using these many different kinds of people, God shows that He really does care about them and that He works through all things.
Mary was only betrothed to Joseph during this whole situation. To be betrothed means to be "married" for a year before actually consumating the marriage. That would be a little bit like mine and David's relationship. To him, I'm sure it must have looked like she had just gone out and cheated on him while waiting to be truly married. Although he assumed this, God protected her and the whole situation by revealing the truth to Joseph. This just shows how God will always reveal the truth in the end. Also, this is cool because I just realized how God makes a point of showing how important our history is and how He works everything out according to His will. Just think...if ANYTHING at all had happened to your Great-great-great-great great-grandfather while he was young, such as dying, YOU wouldn't be there...God protected those poeple in our past so that we could be here today! Isn't that awesome? I think so!

Psalm 1:1-6
This shows the importance of a healthy relationship with God. It takes meditating on Him and His Word day and night. It's not an easy task , it will take work and determination but it IS possible! David compares that relationship to a fruit tree planted near a stream. If it's near a stream it is constantly being fed and nourished. Even during droughts it will still be fed better than other trees not planted near the stream at all. It will be sturdy. Also, it's points out the importance of keeping away from THE WAYS of the world. This doesn't mean we don't involve ourselves with the people to bring them to the Lord, but it means we don't follow in their worldly and wicked ways. We can't just leave our Christian environments and friends though because that would be like cutting off one of the supply creeks to our stream that is constantly feeding and strengthening us. The more we do that, the less spiritual nourishment we have and we will continue to slowly wither from the Lord.

Proverbs 1:1-6
The purpose in these Proverbs is to help us grow in wisdom and discernment in many different situations.

Proverbs 1:7
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge but fools despise wisdom and discipline."
